lyrics
when Mary was younger, her mom
put a curse on her cunt
& she taught her to sink like a stone
but these tender walls-
they can stretch, they can breach & they can grow
& Mary now is getting softer on her own
& here my soul will know me as blessed
here my New One; bring fear to His mercy
He fills up the hungry with good things
& He sends the rich away
when Mary was different, her mom
made a garden out of weeds
& she told her to grow like a tree
& oh, mom was proud,
full of might, like a priest on sunday morn
never seeing Mary’s garden grown
& here my soul will know me as blessed
here my New One; bring fear to His mercy
He fills up the hungry with good things
& He sends the rich away
So happy to see a new album from this band. I've long been a fan of Mazurek and Parker's work in Tortoise, on top of the CUQ... Anyhow, if you're curious about contemporary jazz, this is a terrific place to start.

Long-form trance-y rhythmic jams, with a fun shambling edge, sounding like a cross between music from Africa's Sahel region crossed with a Tom Waits instrumental... Jascha Narveson
